Saints had a comically bad play in loss to Broncos

Spencer Rattler holds the ball

The New Orleans Saints were hammered 33-10 in a home loss to the Denver Broncos at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, La., on Thursday night. If you want to know how bad things were for the Saints, look no further than one play from early in the game.

The Saints had the ball at their 30-yard line down 6-0 to the Broncos early in the second quarter. Quarterback Spencer Rattler was lined up in the shotgun formation, took a snap from center, and things went bad in about five different ways thereafter.

First off, the snap was soft and high. Secondly, Rattler mishandled the ball. Third, after picking up the ball, Rattler bumped into a teammate. Fourth, he tried to throw a pass as he was being brought down. Fifth, his fumble was recovered by Denver and taken to the end zone.

The good thing is none of that counted because Denver was offsides on the play.

You’re probably not in the least bit surprised that the Saints ended up punting on that possession.

New Orleans also made a quarterback change late in the game, and Jake Haener provided their only touchdown of the night.

The Saints have lost five in a row since their 2-0 start, while Denver has gone 4-1 since their 0-2 start.
