Seahawks reportedly offer Marshawn Lynch huge contract extension

Marshawn Lynch is one of the best players in the NFL and it looks like the Seattle Seahawks are prepared to pay him accordingly.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that the Seahawks have offered Lynch a huge contract that would keep the running back in Seattle for years to come. The deal supposedly would double the $5 million Lynch is set to earn next season in the final year of a 4-year, $31 million deal.

This news is surprising but it makes sense. Multiple reports earlier this year said the Seahawks were going to part ways with Lynch after the season because they were tired of him. That didn’t seem to make much sense because it was obvious to most observers that Lynch is one of the core players on the Seahawks and critical to their success.

Rapoport says the Seahawks believe Lynch has outplayed his contract and that they want to reward him. He also says the team changed their plans after seeing him lead the team to another Super Bowl.

It was pretty maddening to think the Seahawks were going to let such a difference-maker like Lynch walk, but now it looks like they’ve come to their senses. Despite his age and career workload, we expect Lynch to be a good player for another two years.
