Seahawks signing former Patriots draft bust
The Seattle Seahawks are shoring up their receiving depth with a former New England Patriots draft bust.
The Seahawks are signing 2019 first-round pick N’Keal Harry to the team’s practice squad, according to Seahawks.com senior reporter John Boyle.
The Patriots selected Harry with the 32nd pick of the 2019 NFL draft. Harry was expected to become a key weapon for Tom Brady but struggled mightily in his first pro season. Harry caught 12 passes for 105 yards with 2 touchdowns across 7 games during his rookie campaign.
The Arizona State alum showed little improvement following Brady’s 2020 departure. Over his next two seasons, Harry caught just 45 passes for 493 yards and 2 touchdowns before he requested a trade away from the Patriots.
Harry has been listed as a wide receiver throughout his five seasons in the NFL thus far. But interestingly enough, the Seahawks are listing Harry as a tight end. The hulking 6’4″ player has always had the size to play the position and could potentially find more success by making the shift.
Harry was on the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad earlier this season before getting cut in late October. The Vikings reportedly had Harry bulk up to 240 pounds with an eye toward moving him to tight end.
