The Los Angeles Rams’ 30-26 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday night was marred by a highly controversial pass interference call.
Rams cornerback Josh Wallace had an interception taken away after the PI call, and it led to a game-winning rushing touchdown by Bo Nix.
On Wednesday, Rams coach Sean McVay said the league told him that the PI penalty shouldn’t have been called, according to ESPN’s Sarah Barshop.
“Sean McVay said he was told by the league that Josh Wallace should not have been called for defensive pass interference on Sunday,” Barshop wrote on X.
Here was the play, which happened late in the fourth quarter.
Pat Bryant tugs on the right shoulder pad of Josh Wallace, flops, and Wallace still makes the interception.

NBC rules analyst Terry McAulay was on the broadcast, and he said the call shouldn’t have been made against Wallace, while many others followed suit.
It was a huge momentum shift. Instead of the Rams getting the ball back with a lead, the Broncos scored and eventually won the game.
It marked the second loss of the season for McVay’s team, with the other coming in Week 1 in a disappointing performance against the San Francisco 49ers in Australia.
The result for Week 3 won’t change, but this PI call is something the league needs to look at in order to fix the issue going forward.
