Shedeur Sanders will have a new jersey number during his second year with the Cleveland Browns.
The Browns announced Monday that Sanders will switch from No. 12 to No. 2 in 2026. That is the same number he wore in college at both Jackson State and Colorado.

Sanders did not get No. 2 last year because it was issued to veteran wide receiver DeAndre Carter. Carter played four games for the team before suffering a season-ending knee injury in Week 4, and his contract expired this offseason, opening the number up for Sanders.
Last year, there were some indications that Sanders’ camp was not happy about him being denied the jersey number he had worn in college. Sanders himself downplayed any issues and said he did not have a big enough signing bonus to try to buy the number off Carter. All he had to do was wait a year for the situation to work itself out.
Sanders threw for 1,400 yards as a rookie with seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions, and was controversially selected to the Pro Bowl. While he has a chance to keep his starting job for 2026, the Browns have made it clear that he will have to compete for it in training camp.
