State Farm issues statment regarding players injured doing ‘Discount Double Check’ celebration
iIn September, we saw Stephen Tulloch of the Detroit Lions tear his ACL while celebrating a sack of Aaron Rodgers by mocking his famous “Discount Double Check” celebration.
Last weekend, LaMarr Houston of the Chicago Bears did the same celebration after taking down New England Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Unfortunately, Houston suffered the same injury and will also be out for the remainder of the season.
With the motion that became popular by Aaron Rodgers in commercials for State Farm commercials being a common denominator in both injury scenarios, State Farm has issued a statement on the matter.
“It’s very unfortunate that these players injured themselves while celebrating, but it is our belief that the Discount Double Check is not inherently dangerous,” said a State Farm spokeswoman via the Wall Street Journal. “In fact, it can be used to help you save money on insurance when performed correctly. We encourage all athletes to celebrate responsibly.”
The fact that State Farm felt the need to address this is interesting, to say the least.
After seeing two players go down with season-ending injuries doing the same thing, we can only hope the advice of “celebrating responsibly” does not fall on deaf ears.
