Stephen Jones walks back Jerry’s claim that Dak Prescott deal is ‘imminent’
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones may have gotten a little ahead of himself when he described a contract extension with Dak Prescott as “imminent.”
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones walked back his father’s words on Monday, saying that while the team was hopeful of getting something done, “imminent” may have been too strong a word.
Jerry Jones said yesterday that a new deal with Dak Prescott was imminent.
Cowboys VP Stephen Jones on @1053thefan today wasn’t willing to go that far: “(Jerry) has different meanings for different words. … (Hopefully) we’ll put this in the rearview mirror sooner than later.”

Prescott, in the final year of his rookie deal, sent extension talk into overdrive Sunday when he torched the New York Giants for 405 yards and four touchdowns. That probably had Jerry Jones in a great mood when he dropped the quote that made the rounds late Sunday. It still appears likely that Prescott and the Cowboys will find an agreement; it just doesn’t seem as close to happening as it sounded Sunday.
