You didn’t really think Steve Smith Sr. was going to let another rookie badmouth him without a response, did you?
Days after Dallas rookie cornerback Anthony Brown said he’d lost respect for Smith because of his trash talk, the Baltimore Ravens receiver responded just as you might expect him to.
“I can really give a flying f—,” Smith said, via Katherine Terrell of ESPN.
Smith said it was a generational thing, and followed it up with some good old-fashioned sarcasm.
“Older guys, they understand the respect game,” Smith continued. “These young guys, these new millennium guys, they don’t really get it.
“I’ve had two rookies that unfortunately, they have lost all respect for me, so it’s been really keeping me up at night. It’s tragic. I’ve been losing sleep. With all the lack of sleep, I know we lost, but I was almost unable to send my cleats and gloves all the way to Canton because of the lack of the sleep thing.”
This response is fairly reminiscent of the one he had for the other rookie defensive back who badmouthed him. Perhaps they were trying to belatedly get into his head. It doesn’t seem like it worked.
