The San Francisco 49ers are headed to the Super Bowl after their improbable comeback against the Detroit Lions, and defensive coordinator Steve Wilks is not taking the experience for granted.
After the 49ers beat the Lions 34-31 in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday, Wilks shared a great quote on social media about ending up in a better situation following a rejection.

“As I look back on my life, I realize that every time I thought I was being rejected from something good, I was actually being re-directed to something better,” the quote read.
Wilks was named interim head coach of the Carolina Panthers last season after the team fired Matt Rhule. The Panthers had a respectable 6-6 record under Wilks, and many thought he deserved to get the full-time job given the way the team played. Carolina instead hired Frank Reich, who was fired in his first year on the job.
There was a report that Panthers players were unhappy Wilks did not get the job, and that disappointment was undoubtedly shared by the 54-year-old.
Wilks probably feels a lot better now. He landed with the best team in the NFC and is one win away from capturing a Super Bowl. He seems to have a great outlook on the situation.
