Sometimes, very strange things are asked of prospects during NFL Combine interviews.
Texas punter Michael Dickson found that out when interviewing with the Seattle Seahawks, who he says asked him to participate in something of a staring context.
“I had to see how long I could stare without blinking,” Dickson said, via Charean Williams of ProFootballTalk. “I had a couple of attempts. I tried a few techniques, looking away from the light, trying to block any sort of wind coming into the eyes. That was a weird process.”
So how did Dickson do?
“The first time I did terrible,” Dickson said. “I only lasted for 14 seconds, but my third time I had figured out a technique to look around the room just to get your eyes a little watery, I guess.”
Dickson’s staring exercise was far from the first off-the-wall question or exercise that a player has been put through during a one-on-one interview. Sometimes it’s hard to see what the purpose of any of it is.
