Thomas Davis: Cam Newton has ‘matured’ since Super Bowl press conference

Cam Newton pouting

The last time we saw Cam Newton on a big NFL stage, he was rather petulantly blowing off his postgame press conference after the Carolina Panthers were defeated by the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl. According to Newton’s teammate, linebacker Thomas Davis, things have changed since then.

Davis told SiriusXM NFL Radio’s Alex Marvez and Kirk Morrison on Wednesday that Newton has learned some things from the debacle.

“Cam understands and he knows that, in that situation, being who he is, being the role model that he is, he has to handle that situation better,” Davis said. “And he’s learned from that, I feel like. Hopefully, we’re never in that position again where we’re losing the Super Bowl, but I definitely feel like Cam has matured since that point and he’s definitely going to be much better at handling different adverse situations like that.”

Newton was roundly criticized for his actions in the press conference, and he has since admitted he handled the whole situation poorly. Perhaps he’ll use the adversity to do better in the future.
