Report: Todd Bowles could replace Vic Fangio as Bears defensive coordinator

Todd Bowles may not have any head coaching offers for 2019 after he was fired by the New York Jets following another disappointing season, but it sounds like he has his pick of at least two defensive coordinator jobs.

With Bruce Arians expected to be named the head coach of the Buccaneers, there have been reports that Bowles may join him in Tampa Bay. However, ESPN’s Adam Schefter was told Bowles is now also a candidate to replace Vic Fangio as the Chicago Bears’ DC after Fangio took the head coaching job with the Denver Broncos.

Hold off on those Todd-Bowles-to Tampa stories, for now. Matt Nagy’s father coached Todd Bowles in high school, and Bowles is being considered to replace Vic Fangio as Chicago’s defensive coordinator, per league sources. Nothing signed in Tampa.

Bowles has a history with Arians, as he served as his defensive coordinator when Arians was the coach of the Arizona Cardinals. But if he makes his decision based on which is the more appealing job, Bowles may choose the Bears. Chicago had one of the better defenses in the NFL this season and ranked first in scoring defense, and the chance to coach Khalil Mack and company may be a big draw for Bowles.
