Report: Tom Coughlin’s job with Jaguars not safe
The Jacksonville Jaguars trading Jalen Ramsey to the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday does not mean that team executive Tom Coughlin has “won” a standoff with the star cornerback.
Ramsey requested a trade after a Week 2 on-field blowup with Jags head coach Doug Marrone, although we later learned Ramsey’s biggest issues were with Coughlin, the team’s executive VP of football operations.
Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson wrote a column on Wednesday about the Ramsey trade and said at the end of it that the trade does not mean Coughlin’s job is safe. Team owner Shad Khan liked Ramsey and believed the cornerback was worthy of a hefty contract extension and was reportedly reluctant to deal the defender.
What does this all mean? Coughlin is under pressure to turn the draft picks into an improved on-field product.
The Jags completely sputtered last year, going 5-11 after reaching the conference championship game the year before. The team is 2-4 this season, although they’ve been playing without big free agent acquisition Nick Foles, who broke his collarbone in Week 1.
