Tony Gonzalez had some harsh words for Russell Wilson on Thursday.

Gonzalez was speaking during the Amazon “Thursday Night Football” pregame show about Wilson, who was benched by the New York Giants this week. He was asked whether or not he feels Wilson still has a lot of football left, as the quarterback suggested he did.

Gonzalez was asked if this is the last we’ve seen of Wilson and gave a harsh response.

“Honestly, I hope we have,” Gonzalez said. “And I say that because I just look at him and his career. If ever there was somebody who played himself out of the Hall of Fame, it’s Russell Wilson.”

Wilson, 36, has been playing in the NFL since 2012. He made nine Pro Bowls with the Seattle Seahawks, and a 10th last season with the Steelers. He helped lead the Seahawks to a Super Bowl win and was the reliable quarterback who led Seattle during their “Legion of Boom” days. But Wilson’s reputation has taken a major hit since his moves to the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers. And in three games with the Giants this season, he passed for 778 yards, 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions as the team went 0-3. Maybe this isn’t the end for Wilson’s playing career just yet, but he definitely is on the down side of it. As for the Hall of Fame claim, Wilson better hope that’s not the case. Gonzalez, after all, is a Hall of Fame player himself.
