Pro Bowl QB admits he turned down spot on Netflix show ‘Quarterback’

Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota headlined Netflix’s inaugural season of their “Quarterback” series. With the 2023 NFL campaign just around the corner, some fans are wondering which QBs will take the spotlight next season.

“Quarterback” gave viewers behind-the-scenes access to Mahomes, Cousins, and Mariota as they went through the trials and tribulations of the 2022 season.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence admitted that he turned down the opportunity to be a part of the show next season. Lawrence detailed the reason for his refusal to a scrum of reporters during training camp at Miller Electric Center.

“I was approached. I decided to not do it this year,” said Lawrence. “That was just something where I feel like it’s just not the right time for me. Who knows, maybe in the future? I watched the show, though. The show was great. I think they did a great job.”

Trevor Lawrence confirms: he was approached but has declined being a part of Netflix’s “Quarterback” series this upcoming season

It remains unclear which NFL QBs ultimately end up agreeing to join the series. While the show could be a great opportunity to gain new fans, creating content for “Quarterback” is also inherently invasive. It is no surprise why Lawrence would feel uncomfortable signing up for it during the early stages of his career.

Lawrence and the Jaguars are looking to build off their first playoff appearance in five seasons. Bringing cameras into a young locker room could potentially bring more harm than good.

Lawrence adds to a growing list of signal-callers who have also turned down a spot on “Quarterback” season 2. Justin Fields said did not want it to potentially serve as a distraction for the rest of the Chicago Bears. Fields and Lawrence join two more star QBs who had previously said no to Netflix as well.
