Troy Aikman has harsh comments on Eagles during playoff game

Troy Aikman did not sugarcoat things when talking about the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night.

The Eagles lost 32-9 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. The loss was the Eagles’ sixth in their last seven games — which is pretty crazy for a team that began the year 10-1.

As Philly trailed in the fourth quarter, Aikman, who called the game for ESPN, was blunt when talking about the Eagles.

“It’s a defeated team, and they were when they came in,” Aikman said of the Eagles. “And there’s been no life to this group, really throughout the entire ballgame.”

Aikman then cited the Eagles’ loss of both their coordinators from last year’s Super Bowl team as being a big factor in the team’s struggles.

“Amazing that a team that began the year 10-1 was unable to get to 12 wins. I don’t think there’s any question that they do miss Shane Steichen. … The losses of the coordinators has impacted this team,” Aikman said, noting that good coordinators are “hard to find.”

The Eagles lost both offensive coordinator Shane Steichen (Colts) and defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon (Cardinals) after last season.

The Eagles finished the regular season 11-6 after beginning it 10-1. And then they lost in the first round of the postseason. Aikman also said he expected the Eagles to make changes, including potentially moving on from head coach Nick Sirianni.
