Troy Aikman will face some new restrictions this season as he handles his “Monday Night Football” commentary duties.
Aikman will have the same access restrictions that Tom Brady has when attending production meetings and talking with teams, according to Mark Maske of Front Office Sports. The NFL is imposing the restrictions because of Aikman’s role as a consultant to the Miami Dolphins.
Aikman can only attend production meetings virtually, but do not have access to practices or team facilities. The same restrictions will continue for Brady, who is part-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.
“There have been no issues with Tom over the last two seasons,” NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said in a statement. “It is up to the coaches and clubs what they share with him. If they share information they shouldn’t, then that’s on them. The same parameters that pertained to Tom last season will continue this year and also will apply to Troy.”
Brady has faced restrictions since 2024. There have been widespread questions about whether Brady’s role as a FOX broadcaster and a Raiders minority owner represents a conflict of interest, but everyone involved seems content with how things have gone over the last two years. Aikman, meanwhile, downplayed any potential conflict by arguing that the Dolphins simply will not be good enough to be relevant in 2026.
Aikman began advising the Dolphins on their coaching search at the end of last season. The two sides enjoyed the arrangement enough that he is staying in that role informally.
