Tyreek Hill signs three-year extension with Chiefs

Tyreek Hill

Tyreek Hill dealt with some legal trouble during the offseason that looked like it had the potential to result in a suspension, but it did not prevent the star receiver from landing a massive contract extension.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Friday that they have signed Hill to an extension. Numerous reports indicate it is worth $54 million over three years, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter says the deal includes $35 million guaranteed.

Hill was in the final year of his rookie contract and scheduled to make roughly $2 million in 2019. The average annual value of the extension is $18 million, which places him below the $19.25 million Michael Thomas got from the New Orleans Saints and right next to Odell Beckham Jr.

Hill was not suspended by the NFL despite being accused by his ex-girlfriend of abusing his young son, and he has since apologized for the situation he put himself in. There were some who felt he should have been suspended just for the language he was heard using toward his ex-girlfriend on an audio recording. The Chiefs are apparently confident Hill is innocent, though the length of the contract compared to some other wide receiver deals we have seen may be reflective of his off-field issues.
