The Mark Sanchez situation is still nowhere close to being resolved.
Sanchez’s criminal trial has been delayed yet again, this time to Sept. 8. Jarett Lewis of WIBC reports that this is now the fifth time that Sanchez’s trial, which was originally scheduled to begin on July 13, has been delayed.
The former NFL quarterback Sanchez is facing a felony battery charge as well as three other misdemeanor charges in relation to his stabbing incident that occurred last October in Indianapolis, Ind. Sanchez allegedly got into a late-night parking dispute with 69-year-old truck driver Perry Tole, resulting in an ugly physical confrontation that left Sanchez hospitalized with multiple stab wounds (catch up on the full details here).
Sanchez was later accused of being on illegal drugs during the incident, for which he was ultimately arrested. On top of that, Sanchez ended up getting fired from his broadcasting job with FOX Sports in the wake of the episode.
Tole has also since filed a lawsuit against Sanchez and FOX over the confrontation. The 69-year-old has claimed that he suffered severe and gruesome injuries as a result of being attacked by Sanchez.
Still only 39 years old, the USC product Sanchez was the No. 5 overall pick by the New York Jets in the 2009 NFL Draft. He played in the league for eight seasons from 2009-18 before transitioning into a career as an analyst after his retirement.
