Vince Young chose to forego his senior year at Texas after having one of the greatest seasons of any player in college football history. In 2005, Young threw for 3,036 yards and 26 touchdowns and rushed for 1,050 yards and 12 scores before setting his sights on the NFL.
Had Vince known where he would be drafted, he claims he would have stayed at Texas for his senior season.
During an interview with Alex Loeb on 104.9 FM in Austin on Wednesday, Young was asked how close he was to staying with the Longhorns in 2006.
“It was very close,” he said. “The Texans had the No. 1 pick, that was the place I wanted to play at. I wish they would’ve told me that they weren’t picking me because I would’ve stayed for my senior year. But it didn’t happen like that.”

While he was crossing his fingers that the Texans would draft him, Young admitted he was excited to be drafted by the franchise he grew up rooting for.
“Being a kid watching the Oilers all my life, I had the opportunity to play for them, it was a dream come true as well,” he added.
The Texans took Mario Williams with the top overall pick in 2006. Young went on to have a strong rookie season and lead the Titans to a playoff berth before butting heads with Jeff Fisher. It’s easy to look back on his career and say he wishes he remained at Texas, but he would not feel that way if he had a successful career in Tennessee.
