New York Jets owner Woody Johnson made it very clear how he feels about the play of quarterback Justin Fields so far.

Johnson spoke with the media on Tuesday amid the Jets’ 0-7 start while attending NFL owners meetings in New York. While he gave head coach Aaron Glenn a vote of confidence, he quite clearly threw Fields under the bus, suggesting that some of the team’s problems would be addressed “if we can just complete a pass.”

Woody Johnson, speaking to reporters at the NFL meetings in NYC, says he has faith and confidence in Aaron Glenn that he can turn it around.

Johnson says they can start winning “if we can just complete a pass.” He wouldn’t weigh in on Fielde vs Taylor, but it’s clear where this…

It’s clear just from that one comment that Johnson is no fan of how Fields has played thus far, and that is admittedly understandable. Fields is averaging less than 141 passing yards per game this season. Completing passes has not necessarily been the problem, but the Jets do not seem to trust Fields with anything more than an extremely conservative offensive gameplan.

Glenn has publicly praised Fields as recently as last week, but the decision to bench the quarterback during Sunday’s loss to the Carolina Panthers spoke volumes. The Jets have not yet made a public announcement about who will start for them in Week 8, but all the signs are pointing toward Tyrod Taylor getting a shot against the Cincinnati Bengals.

At this point, one has to wonder whether Johnson still has no regrets about the team’s offseason handling of Aaron Rodgers.
