WR Quincy Enunwa blasts Jets over fine for missing neck rehab

Quincy Enunwa blasted the New York Jets in a series of tweets on Thursday night after being fined by the team for missing treatments on his neck.

Enunwa missed all of the 2017 season due to a neck injury and is out for this season after re-injuring his neck. He only played in one game this season and has been receiving treatment since.

Enunwa says he missed two treatments in the past week, once on Monday for taking his veteran wife out to lunch for Veterans Day, and another for a home emergency. He says he did not reach out to the team until after missing the treatments, but he feels the fines were excessive.

“This s— feels like punishment already and then they FINE me the max. And then want me to continue to do my rehab there and IF I get healthy they want me to then play for them after. I’m not writing this for sympathy and never wanted to even say anything, but when multiple teammates are coming to me saying it’s f—ed up I don’t care to sit on it anymore,” Enunwa wrote (edited for profanity).

Enunwa should have given the team prior notice and asked for permission to miss the treatments, like he noted. Had he done so and then the team fined him, then his outrage would be called for. The Jets are within their right to fine a player for missing treatment, and you could even look at it the other way and say it’s a good sign they still care about Enunwa and want him to be around the team and facility. However, the team should also strive to have a good relationship with their players/employees. If they had any inkling the fines would lead to such backlash, then they should have handled things differently.

This is the latest hit to the Jets’ image, as they have been accused of mishandling multiple situations this year. Two players have filed injury grievances against them recently, and star safety Jamal Adams was upset about being mentioned in trade talks.
