Did Brooks Koepka post a meme in response to new comments from Rory McIlroy? That’s what many suspect.

McIlroy joined the “Stick to Football” show for an episode that was published on Tuesday. In the episode, McIlroy discussed his reaction to golfers who joined the PGA Tour rival, LIV Golf.

For the first time, McIlroy admitted he may have reacted too harshly to the golfers who had defected to the rival league.

“I think, at this point, I was maybe a little judgmental of the guys who went to LIV Golf at the start, and I think it was a bit of a mistake on my part because I now realize that not everyone is in my position or in Tiger Woods’ position,” McIlroy said. “We all turn professional to make a living playing the sports that we do, and I think that’s what I realized over the last two years. I can’t judge people for making that decision.”

McIlroy had an official position on the PGA Tour Policy Board, which is a big part of the reason why he was one of the most vocal critics of LIV and those who left for the league.

McIlroy now acknowledges that a merger has taken place and that the Saudi Arabians, who founded and backed LIV, were able to buy their way into the sport. The PGA could no longer afford to fight LIV in court, which led McIlroy to start softening his stance toward the rival league.

One of the most prominent golfers who left for LIV was Koepka. He posted a GIF on X of the Kermit the Frog drinking tea meme, which is what people do to signal they are just minding their business as interesting developments occur.

Keep in mind that McIlroy had specifically targeted Koepka, saying in June 2022 he was surprised Koepka had gone back on his commitments to the PGA Tour.

A year and a half later, McIlroy’s stance has changed, and Koepka appears to be taking note.
