Tiger Woods announced on Wednesday that he is planning to return to competitive golf next month.
If all goes to plan, Tiger will play in the first tournament of the 2016-2017 PGA season, which is the Safeway Open on Oct. 13. He is then hoping to compete in the Turkish Airlines Open on Nov. 3 in Turkey and the Hero World Challenge — which is run by the Tiger Woods Foundation — on Dec. 1.
“My rehabilitation is to the point where I’m comfortable making plans, but I still have work to do,” Woods said, via his official website. “Whether I can play depends on my continued progress and recovery. My hope is to have my game ready to go.”
Woods added that it has been difficult missing so many tournaments but important for him to be “smart” about his recovery this time rather than rushing back.
We knew Tiger was nowhere close to a return back in May when he embarrassed himself in front of cameras with a series of bad shots. You can see videos of those swings here.
Now that he is 40, you have to wonder if we will ever see the Tiger of old. He probably has no shot at catching Jack Nicklaus for the most major championship wins in golf history, but Woods playing well again would be great for golf.
