There is something to be said for a professional athlete keeping his private life private, but secrets have been known to get Tiger Woods into trouble. Sometimes it’s better to come out and admit that something is going on in your personal life, rather that allow speculation to run rampant and become a distraction. That is likely why Tiger decided to take to Facebook on Monday to confirm that he is dating Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn.
“This season has been great so far and I’m happy with my wins at Torrey and Doral,” Woods (or his PR team) wrote alongside the photo you see above. “Something nice that’s happened off the course was meeting Lindsey Vonn. Lindsey and I have been friends for some time, but over the last few months we have become very close and are now dating. We thank you for your support and for respecting our privacy. We want to continue our relationship, privately, as an ordinary couple and continue to compete as athletes.”
In Tiger’s case, honesty is probably the best policy. While he certainly doesn’t owe it to anyone to keep the public informed about his personal affairs, it’s probably better to confirm he is dating Vonn than to be asked about rumors that he is getting back together with his ex-wife. The truth is always more boring, which will serve Tiger well in this situation.

Perhaps Vonn has helped him gain some stability in his life in the wake of the sex scandal that rocked his career two years ago.
