Indiana high schooler preserves no-hitter with amazing game-saving catch
An Indiana high school baseball player made arguably the best catch of the season on Monday, and the stakes at the time could not have been higher.
Westfield High School had a 1-0 lead in the ninth inning of their Indiana Class 4A Sectional 8 title game against Fishers High School. With two outs, Fishers’ Benjamin Hammond hit a deep fly ball to left field that looked like it had a chance to tie the game. Westfield outfielder Nick Fero had other plans.
Fero timed his jump at the wall and robbed what would have been a solo home run. In addition to sealing the win for Westfield, Fero also preserved a no-hitter for pitcher Ty Anderson.

Unbelievable grab that couldn’t have come in a bigger spot.

Fero called the play “the catch of my life.”
“I’m just thinking get behind it as much as I can. I turned and looked to the wall and saw where it was, and I was like, ‘I may have to get up.’ I took one last look, and it was right there,” Fero told Rich Torres of the Indianapolis Star. “I just jumped up, reached back and made the catch of my life.”
Considering Fero preserved a 1-0 win in a huge game and a no-hitter, that catch is right up there with one of the best you will ever see.
The Class 4A Sectional 8 title is Westfield’s first since 2011.
