Arizona Coyotes hire Charles Barkley in April Fools’ joke
It’s April Fools’ Day, which means a lot of teams and players are getting their jokes in on Twitter.
The Arizona Coyotes had a pretty elaborate one, announcing in a press release that Charles Barkley has been named a special adviser of hockey strategy, complete with quotes from the man himself.
“Anything can happen in the NHL, and anything can happen with this team, so I’m excited to help this organization realize its full potential,” Barkley said in the release. “At first, I thought this idea was just terrible, but after giving it some more thought, I think this could be something really special.
“I want to teach these kids that you’ve got to believe in yourself,” Barkley added. “I believe I’m the best-looking guy in the world, and I might be right.”
Naturally, the Coyotes out it as a joke at the end — if someone somehow hadn’t already figured it out — but it was a pretty good one. That’s probably because the mental image of Barkley helping out a hockey team is a hilarious one. His endeavors into other sports haven’t exactly looked great.
