Erik Karlsson’s message to Sharks fans sounds like farewell
San Jose Sharks defenseman Erik Karlsson is set to become one of the most in-demand free agents on the market this summer, and he hinted Friday that his future may be away from the Bay Area.
Karlsson tweeted a message to Sharks fans on Friday, thanking them for their support after his first season. Whether intentional or not, it sounded like a goodbye from the star defenseman.
Thank you to the entire @SanJoseSharks organization, fans, and especially teammates. It was a great run that ended too early. But lots of great memories where created. The entire Bay Area has been nothing but classy and respectful to me and my family. Thank you.

Karlsson will spend this summer looking for a long-term home after two seasons of uncertainty. He couldn’t get to the Stanley Cup Finals with San Jose this season and will explore all his options. while the door can’t be closed yet, it certainly seems that his future lies elsewhere, though his market is somewhat restricted if one report is to be believed.
