The NHL trade deadline is approaching, and Matt Duchene is a player who seems likely to be moved.
Duchene is in the final season of his contract and set to become an unrestricted free agent. On Saturday night, SportsNet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that Duchene was on the trade block.
Taking things even further, TSN’s Darren Dreger reported on Tuesday that Duchene is expected to be held out of the lineup on Thursday and may have played his last game for the Ottawa Senators.
Plan is to not risk injury therefore Duchene not expected to be in the lineup for the Sens on Thursday. May have played last game with Ottawa. https://t.co/xe6d3QDq9y

The 28-year-old center is in his second season with the Senators and has 58 points in 50 games this season. With Ottawa playing so poorly — their 49 points are the fewest in the league — they probably figure it’s worth trying to recoup some of what they gave up to acquire Duchene from Colorado in 2017.
