Senators taking heat over inflatable ball drop before home opener
The Ottawa Senators had a very unusual way of trying to get their fans hyped before the first game of the season on Thursday night, and it would be safe to say it did not go over very well.
Prior to the puck drop in Ottawa’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks, large inflatable balls were released from the rafters at the Canadian Tire Centre. These weren’t like big balloons, however, as they seemed to have some significant weight to them. One fan at the game noted that drinks were being knocked out of people’s hands.
This wasn't marketing's greatest idea. These giant beach balls are heavy… And are knocking people's beers over including mine :/ pic.twitter.com/OmnOxEKzBR

In fact, the balls may have been more than just an inconvenience. There was some complaining about people being hit in the head and fans trying to protect their kids from them.
And they hurt when they get dropped from the rafters #headache https://t.co/NMYOREt9dM

I actually felt bad for some of the kids! Parents were trying to protect their heads.

Senators fans probably already have a headache over what has been going on with their best player, so the giant ball drop may have been par for the course.
