The UFC 4 on Versus card Sunday night took a major blow when Nate Marquardt failed his physical, taking him out of the main event. As if that wasn’t a bad enough break for Marquardt, Dana White released a video announcing that Marquardt had been dropped by the UFC.
“I’m sure you heard that Nate Marquardt is out,” White said in a video clip. “It’s true. He failed his medicals. Not only is he out of this fight, out of the main event on Versus, he will no longer be with the UFC.”
Charlie Brenneman will replace Marquardt and fight Rick Story. Additionally, the heavyweight fight between Pat Barry and Cheick Kongo has been promoted to the main event.
Nate’s team released a statement after he failed the physical, saying “Nate is really disappointed. He really was looking forward to making his welterweight debut, and he plans to be back in there as soon as possible.”
Marquardt was moving down in weight from middleweight to welterweight for the fight, so it’s possible the cut had something to do with his issues. Unfortunately getting kicked out of the UFC will make it tough to live his wish of shutting up Michael Bisping.
