Man caught trying to sneak into Olympic Village with fake ID
Security at the Olympic Village in PyeongChang was fortunately on its toes on Monday, as a man reportedly tried to sneak into the compound with expired credentials from the last Olympic Games.
According to Park Si-soo of the Korea Times, a 24-year-old Spanish man will be charged with forging a private document after he tried to gain access to the Olympic Village. The man admitted that he used a recycled ID from the 2016 Rio Olympics in an attempt to sneak into the Olympic Village so he could sell Olympic-themed badges and other souvenirs. He was stopped by a security guard who noticed that the ID card had “suspicious elements.”
The man tried to flee the scene, but he was caught at a local coffee shop.
We have heard of a different type of sneaking around in the Olympic Village in the past, but this one seems a bit more troubling. Fortunately, the impostor wasn’t allowed to pull a fast one.
