Ralph Lauren has no plans to increase inventory of Team USA gloves

USA gloves Olympics

It turns out those oversized gloves that Team USA wore during the opening ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympics have proven quite popular.

The gloves, made by official outfitter Ralph Lauren and retailing at $995, were quickly listed as “out of stock” on the retailer’s website after the broadcast of the opening ceremony. You might think that they’d take this opportunity to make some extra money, but it turns out that they’re not rushing to restock their inventory.

Via Nicole Poell of USA Today, a Ralph Lauren spokesperson confirmed that the gloves are sold out, and said there are no plans to increase that inventory as things stand.

Bad move. There are clearly a lot of people out there who want to emulate the look. The gloves were extremely popular and generated some truly hilarious memes online.

This feels like a big missed business opportunity on Ralph Lauren’s part.
