Russell Wilson was hit-or-miss, at best, for the New York Giants this season before he was benched. We may have some added context to his issues now.
Wilson said Monday that he tore his hamstring prior to the Giants’ Week 2 game against the Dallas Cowboys. That would mean Wilson started two games after suffering that injury.
“I tore my hamstring on Friday that last play of practice [before the Dallas game],” Wilson told reporters. “I had a Grade 2, I couldn’t tell anybody. I knew the circumstances. I had to play on it, no matter what. I actually ended up going to the Dallas Mavericks facility. I just kept it quiet, tried to get treatment on it. Knowing I probably couldn’t run from the goal line to the 10-yard line if I wanted to, but I gotta play this game.”

Wilson wound up going 30/41 for 450 yards with three touchdowns in that game, which is wildly impressive considering the circumstances. He struggled against Kansas City the week after that, and was then benched in favor of rookie Jaxson Dart.
Wilson’s revelation may cause a headache for the Giants. As his injury was never publicly disclosed, expect the NFL to look into what the team knew and whether they violated league policy by failing to list Wilson on the injury report. The NFL takes such things seriously, and the Giants would not be the first team to face questions about that this season.
As for Wilson, he is certainly done in New York, with the team now fully committed to Dart going forward. He confirmed that he intends to keep playing, but it is not entirely clear if any team will be willing to offer him a starting role in 2026.
