Usain Bolt made history by winning the 100m at the Olympics for the third straight time, becoming the first person to ever do so. This time around, though, the race was pretty close.
Bolt won with a time of 9.81, just .08 seconds faster than Justin Gatlin, who won silver with a time of 9.89. Bolt was trailing most of the race but pulled ahead late for the unprecedented third straight gold in the 100m.
Though Bolt was challenged in the final, he more or less cruised in his preliminary heat and semifinals. In fact, in the semis run around an hour prior to the final, Bolt was able to turn and smile for a photo which perfectly captures just how effortlessly he is able to race:
