You know how sports people sometimes like to use the phrase “just take what the opponent gives you?” On an afternoon where Arsenal defeated Manchester City 1-0 and Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny came away with a shutout, Szczesny decided to take that advice and apply it to the fans. As you can see from the photo above, a frustrated fan threw a beer onto the pitch in the 87th minute after Arsenal took a 1-0 lead late in the game. As you can see from the photo below, Szczesny proceeded to pick the beer up and pretend to take a swig.
Typically we see athletes turn the other way and ignore objects that are tossed onto the field, but Szczesny felt like staging a little celebration after it appeared his team had the game wrapped up. As Dirty Tackle mentioned, I hope for his sake it wasn’t urine. Knowing what we know about angry soccer fans, I kind of doubt one of them would waste half a beer.
