Missouri softball pitcher Tori Finucane was hit in the head by a line drive during the second game of her team’s super regionals series against UCLA on Sunday and was taken to the hospital.
Finucane, a sophomore, was pitching in relief of starter Paige Lowary when she was hit in the fourth inning. UCLA’s No. 9 hitter Kylee Perez, who nearly took Lowary’s head off with a line drive up the middle earlier in the game, sent a screamer right back at Finucane, who was not able to duck in time.
Video showed Finucane just missed catching it, too:

She went down immediately and was bleeding from her face, and she had to be helped off.
Missouri softball provided a few updates on her condition:
#Mizzou's Tori Finucane is responding well to medics, but will be taken to a hospital for further evaluation. Thank you for your thoughts.

Coach E provides a brief update on Tori Finucane: "Eye and cheek are all I know. I don't know the severity of the injury at this time."

Finucane has not tweeted since the incident, but it sounds like she will be OK. Unfortunately her team fell to UCLA 10-6 and was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament, while the Bruins advanced to the Women’s College World Series.
We wish Finucane the best in her recovery.
