The people at the apparel companies are wasting no time capitalizing on Derek Jeter’s milestone achievement. Not only did Derek Jeter’s Jordan Brand create a special shoe, cleat, shirt, and battling glove to commemorate his 3,000th career hit, but MLB.com is also offering DJ 3-K specific gear in their shop.
Here’s what’s being offered by the MLB.com shop:
T-shirts and replica jerseys — with the logo patch on the shoulder and a special print on the inside of Jeter’s No. 2 on the back commemorating the 3,000 hit with Jeter’s facsimile signature — come in sizes for men, women and youth. Fans can purchase home or away jerseys. Hats with the logo stitched on the side also are available.
Merchandise for sale includes a 3,000th hit engraved display with a signed ball, a commemorative gold coin photo mint, a commemorative 3,000th hit bat signed by Jeter and a vertical flag with the “DJ-3K” logo and images of Jeter.
The most expensive item is the $1,000 autographed bat.
$1,000 for an autographed Derek Jeter bat? That’s kinda a lot. Don’t you think the signature might get ruined after a couple of rounds at the batting cage?
This is also a time when I typically would rip the companies for doing anything possible to make money. But you know what? They wouldn’t market all this stuff if there weren’t so many Yankees/Derek Jeter fans in the country who are dying to have it.Google+
