NESN broadcaster Steve Lyons was ripped for a comment he made about this year’s Miami Marlins roster.
During the offseason, the Marlins were purchase by a new ownership group that includes future Hall of Famer Derek Jeter. What followed was a teardown of the roster that saw several big named players traded away.
Giancarlo Stanton was traded to the Yankees. Marcell Ozuna was dealt to the Cardinals. Christian Yelich and Dee Gordon were also moved, to the Brewers and Mariners respectively. What’s left is a roster full of names not known to much of the country.

Lyons made a remark to that effect on Monday with the Red Sox playing a series against the Marlins, and it is not sitting well with many.
Steve Lyons is on NESN snarking on the Marlins lineup. “I don’t know any of these names.” Buddy, your actual job is to read up on the lineup before you host the pregame show. They’re MLB players, don’t write them off like they don’t matter.

It didn’t take long for criticism to find its way towards Lyons, with some making reference to Lyons’ nondescript major league career.

ESPN’s Keith Law brought up Lyons’ tendency to say or do “dumb things.”
Lyons’ entire legacy is doing or saying dumb things so this is just him being true to his brand https://t.co/RCzsFVKDqf

Lyons has made his thoughts known on other subjects during broadcasts in the past. He has declared he isn’t a fan of home runs or players wearing their hats turned sideways.
