Anthony Davis out for season with knee injury
New Orleans Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry announced on Sunday that Anthony Davis will be shut down for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury.
Davis left Friday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers after a knee-to-knee collision with C.J. McCollum. He has also been dealing with a shoulder injury.
The Pelicans have had a disappointing season and are nowhere near playoff contention, so there’s no reason to risk anything with their franchise player. Gentry acknowledged on Saturday that shutting Davis down was an option.
Davis was averaging 24.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game. He has emerged as one of the best players in the league and made his third All-Star appearance this season.
