Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul was slapped with a technical foul during the fourth quarter of his team’s Game 5 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night, and the call left many scratching their heads.
On the surface, it looked like Paul simply passed the ball to the official after the Spurs scored a basket. We say on the surface because there had to have been more to it. Did Paul say something when he threw the ball?
To make matters worse, the call came with 4:48 left in the game. Danny Green hit the technical free throw to give the Spurs a 98-94 lead, and they were able to hold Los Angeles off down the stretch to take a 3-2 series lead.
It didn’t seem like Paul did enough to warrant a technical foul, especially at a critical point in the game like that.
