Derrick Rose stands by Knicks super-team comments: ‘I’m not taking that back’

Derrick Rose Knicks

Derrick Rose became the subject of ridicule last month when he declared the New York Knicks to be a “super-team” on the level of the Golden State Warriors. But the three-time All-Star is continuing to stand by his claim.

“I still believe that,” said Rose when asked about his comments at a promotional event in Korea earlier this week. “With that super-team term, I have to be careful with that term, I guess in the United States.

“If you’re playing on any team – it doesn’t have to be in the NBA, it could be on the college level, high-school level – you should believe in yourself and have the confidence that you’re playing on a superteam,” Rose said. “I have a lot of confidence, and I’m not taking that back.”

Adding the former MVP Rose and longtime teammate Joakim Noah, an ex-Defensive Player of the Year, to the mix this summer to go along with nine-time All-Star Carmelo Anthony and young Baltic beast Kristaps Porzingis is indeed impressive. But the Knicks still have a lot of work to do in terms of building chemistry and staying healthy before living up to Rose’s lofty assertion. Nevertheless, Rose is maintaining a high level of confidence, and that’s what matters as he looks to reassert himself in his post-Chicago days.
