Report: George Karl, DeMarcus Cousins could both leave Sacramento

DeMarcus-Cousins-George-Karl

The choice between George Karl and DeMarcus Cousins isn’t necessarily an either-or proposition. Reportedly, both of them could be on their way out of Sacramento.

Karl’s days in particular seem numbered, but a league source told CBS Sports’s Ken Berger that “it could be both” Karl and Cousins being shown the door.

Karl is reportedly in immediate danger of losing his job as soon as this week following a tumultuous few days of dysfunction. Sources tell Berger that both the players and the front office have grown irritated with Karl. It’s fair to say that no player is more aggrieved than Cousins, who feuded with Karl over the summer and cursed out the coach after Monday’s loss. Karl isn’t a big fan of his player and reportedly tried to suspend him following the outburst. Another league source tells Berger that the relationship between Karl and Cousins was “doomed from the start.”

It stands to reason that Karl will go and Cousins will stay, given the forward’s prodigious talent, but one of Berger’s sources maintains that it could be both, as Cousins could probably fetch the team plenty of future draft picks if they chose to go that route and take on a few contracts in the near term.

Whatever the case, Karl seems like a goner, and the Kings roster seems fatally flawed, at least for this season. Changes are almost certainly coming soon.
