Things got pretty bumpy in Atlanta Wednesday night. First, Dwyane Wade got caught up in someone’s leg and fell, banging his head against the floor. Later Wade went up for a layup and got fouled by Solomon Jones and a skirmish ensued, resulting in double-technicals. On the next play, Wade fouled Maurice Evans on a fastbreak and got hit with a flagrant one foul. As if that wasn’t enough, later in the second quarter, Al Horford came down after a hard foul and twisted his ankle. All three moments are encapsulated in an incredible way by Hawks radio announcer, Steve Holman, on the Hawks flagship station, 790 the Zone. The dude literally goes berserk on-air, bashing the “untouchable” Dwyane Wade in the process. Believe me, it’s hilarious.

Some of the classic lines:

“You can’t foul me when I go to the basket, I’m Dwyane Wade. I do commercials.”

“Look, I’m Dwyane Wade, you can’t call that!”

“Oh my goodness, the Heat have resorted to thuggery!”

I do believe that the term “homer” would be appropriate here. Even if Wade gets preferable treatment from the refs, the foul on Mo Evans wasn’t anywhere near as bad as Holman describes it. He wasn’t trying to hurt Evans, and yes, Wade was going for the ball. You can see a few of the highlights here to judge for yourself.

Maybe in game 6 Wade will orchestrate an injury where he is carried off on a stretcher only to run back to the court a minute later.
Oh wait he’s already done that

Steve Holman has always been a bush league announcer for a bush league basketball team. I used to work with Steve… he’s a nice guy, but really has no talent whatsoever. There were probably 7 people listening to that game on radio last night since 790 the Zone’s signal reaches about a 10 square block radius after sundown.

I’m sorry but I don’t see one person on Atlanta that can do-Wade, stop hating and congratulate. Most of the players on that team will never get a ring, be the MVP or invited to the olympics. WHAT NOW. I can’t hear you. If you know basketball then you know he is the MVP, he is a man without a team that won 45-46-47-48 games without a team and a bench. Now the other two are great but they have a team and a bench, Wade has Wade go and check your stat.

This guy is absolutely ridiculous. Take him off of the air. It’s one thing if you’re calling it for the hometown team and you getting excited when something good happens for your squad, but this guy is a joke to the profession of sports broadcasting.

THIS A-CLOWN SHOULD BE FIRED IT’S ONE THING FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS ERNED THE RIGHT TO TALK TRASH BUT NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO BASH AN ATHLETE WHO’S LAYING ON THE FLOOR HURT. THAT JUST SHOWS LACK OF CLASS. IS THIS PLAY-BY-PLAY OR SOMETHING PERSONNAL.THIS FOOL NEEDS TO CHECK HIMSELF OR FIND SOME PICK-UP GAMES OR CYO GAMES TO BROADCAST. MIAMI AND ATLANTA PLAY HARD KEEP IT CLEAN. DONT LET THIS “PIASO” TURN THIS INTO SOMETHING DIRTY.

It’s amazing how if this was pretty much anyone else (except for Kobe and Lebron) in this league no one would give a hoot, but if you even think about not siding with the Big 3 you must be a Satanist . Personally Idon’t think Steve’s call were that bad. D Wade and his minions made some pretty hard unsportmanlike fouls, and if he wasn’t the God that is Dwayne he would have gotten the boot with the Evans foul. The Hawks are playing hard and Steve Holman is a Hawks fan like myself. It would probably be a good idea to not listen to him if you are not a Hawks fan b/c I’m sure that these sound bytes won’t be the last that piss you off if you keep listening too him especially if the Hawks keep winning……and for the record please stop making excuses for Lord D. Wade and his “balky back” and the fact that he got a headache going for the ball fell awkard. All of that will heal in the offseason which starts for them real soon. Plus no one was focusing on his back when they Heat won 2 and 3. If the Heat win I won’t even bring up Horford or Marvin Williams. Leave the excuses at the house cause no one wants to hear that BS.

I love how excited he got that Wade was going to be ejected, only to realize he had the rule wrong and players dont get ejected if they have a technical foul and a flagrant foul.

      Bush league team…bush league broadcaster.

Not a Hawks fan or a Heat fan. I’m a fan of Wade though. He is not exempt from fouling like any other player in the league–superstar or not. If you want to get mad, get mad at the refs and the league for preferential treatment instead of goading Wade with elementary insults like you have a school girl crush. Isn’t that what little boys do on the playground? Hit a girl and then run away? lmao Please! I can understand the sarcasm if Wade really was being a jerk and intentionally fouling players but that last play was accidental at best. If you were talking about Paul Pierce, Ron Artest or someone like that–those guys are douches and its the ABC taunting is warranted!

Not really a fan of either team… its pretty safe to say these calls were awful. But hey, maybe these announcers are just balancing out Dick Stockton and Mike Fratello on TNT. I know D-Wade is Chuck’s boy and all, but that entire network seems to think that he can do no wrong.

Just sayin, as a complete outsider– I’m getting pretty sick of the D-Wade LoveFest that’s been going on lately. Just my .02.

Damn that was good stuff – somebody has to balance out Fratello and Stockton’s slurpy Wade-fest.

I for one think the home team announcer should be a complete homer. It makes the game much more fun, good v. evil. That way playoff sports should be.

      Kudos to you Mr. Holman.

What a clown. This has to be THE worst game calling I’ve ever heard. If they were warranted I’d give the douche some slack…. like hmmm…. Smith pushing Jamal with his back turned!!!!!! That’s class.

And you talk about a “Wade slurp fest”? Wait til the next series, it’s gonna be a freaking circle jerk with “KING JAMES” while he pounds his chest and roars after every freaking basket he makes. Oh let’s not forget about having to see him throw his little powder in the air. That will probably be shown coming back from every commercial break. They’ll probably powder his arse for him before the game.

You have to understand Steve Home-man has been this way for years, and probably picked up some of it from mentor Johnny Most in Boston.

He knew the refs were cheating long before that betting scandal — almost always cheating against the Hawks, because the NBA (for some reason he’s never explained) doesn’t want ATL to win a championship.

Steve knows the NBA is biased for a Wade-James semifinal series. The association simply won’t come out and say it (or so he’d tell you).

He can make all this sound funny. But in this series, he’s made himself sound ridiculously legalistic — and sadly, he’s almost made himself bigger than the series. Perhaps it was only a matter of time, but the web (like your site) really is exposing him.
