Kevin Love talks about emotional hug with LeBron James

LeBron-Kevin-Love-hug

When the final buzzer sounded and the Cleveland Cavaliers were officially crowned champions of the NBA, you never could have guessed who the first person would be to hug LeBron James.

Kevin Love, really?

It’s no secret that James and Love have not been best friends during their two seasons together, but they had the same goal and they accomplished it. In an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” Tuesday night, Love spoke about the emotional embrace after Game 7.

“I didn’t want to be the one guy that was searching for someone to hug (after the final whistle),” Love explained. “I tried to find the person that everyone was most likely to hug, and it happened to be Bron. All the cameras were there, he dropped to his knees — it was a special moment. …. That was a warm, cuddly embrace.”

That special moment came just days after LeBron and Love had yet another awkward exchange in which it appeared LeBron was lecturing his teammate (video here). When you win a title, it’s easy to forget about stuff like that.

There have been plenty of reports about LeBron being frustrated with Love, but it sounds like the Cavs intend to keep their core together for next season. Even if Love and LeBron have more speed bumps along the way, they’ll be happy to hug it out again next summer if the end result is another NBA championship.
