Cavs GM hints Kevin Love will not be traded

Kevin-Love

Even after they won their first NBA title in franchise history, there has still been speculation that the Cleveland Cavaliers could trade one of their top players in Kevin Love. If that is, in fact, the plan, Cavs GM David Griffin is keeping it quiet.

In a recent interview with Marc Stein, Brian Windhorst and Amin Elhassan on ESPN Radio, Griffin said the Cavs intend to keep their core intact going forward.

“The core of our team fits together,” the GM said. “It’s capable of doing very special things and I do think we would like to keep it together. I think our best basketball is in in front of us because we finally grew to the point organically where we were ready to achieve something together.”

Griffin then specifically mentioned Love.

“I think Kevin’s fit with us is much more clearly defined,” he added. “We intend to keep this group together and see what we’re capable of.”

Of course, there is nothing else Griffin can really say. If the Cavs do intend to shop Love, it’s in their best interest to make other teams believe they would rather keep him.

We all know Love and LeBron James have not been best friends since they became teammates. They even had a tense moment during the playoffs, but the ultimate goal was accomplished. If Cleveland can get solid value in return for Love, they would probably consider dealing him. But if teams think they’re going to acquire the three-time All-Star for pennies on the dollar, they’re wrong.
