Paul Pierce taunted Hawks bench after making 3-pointer saying ‘series’

Paul Pierce Wizards

The legend of Paul Pierce nearly added another chapter to its story on Wednesday night when the veteran ballplayer made a go-ahead shot to give his team the lead and then talked some typical trash afterwards.

Pierce had just turned the ball over in the final minute of Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinals between the Wizards and Hawks, but the team gave him the ball for a shot at redemption. Just like he did when he made a huge shot in Game 3 on Saturday, Pierce buried a 3-pointer to give the Wizards the lead. Up 81-80 with under 10 seconds to go, Pierce thought he had won his team the series and game.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Pierce turned to the Hawks bench and said, “series,” to the players.

Unfortunately for Pierce and the Wizards, the game was not over. The Hawks started their offensive possession early and though Dennis Schroder had his layup attempt blocked by John Wall, Al Horford got the rebound and made a putback to win the game with under two seconds left.

Series? So much for that, Pierce. The Hawks now lead it 3-2. We love the confidence, though.

Here is video of the sequence:
