Steph Curry not happy about North Carolina ‘bathroom law’

Steph Curry

Steph Curry is an outspoken critic of North Carolina’s “bathroom law” that many believe is a measure intended to discriminate against LGBT community.

Curry, the reigning NBA MVP and a Charlotte native, feels the law is not “tolerable.

“I’ve already kind of explained kind of how I feel about discrimination period. I think that’s not tolerable,” Curry said Friday via Bay Area News Group’s Diamond Leung. “Nowhere. And it just sucks that it’s in my home state, where there are a lot of great people there.”

In March, North Carolina passed a bill saying the state’s word was the supreme law in the manner, meaning local governments could not pass measures to supersede it. That was in response to Charlotte passing a law saying that among other things, people could use bathrooms based on the gender they identify with. The state law intends for facilities to be used by people based on their sex at birth.

The NBA has already threatened to pull the 2017 All-Star Game from Charlotte in response to the law, which they believe is discriminatory. Curry would not want to see that happen.

“The All-Star game hopefully being in Charlotte will be a huge thing for the city. I know the NBA will make the right decision when it comes time after North Carolina hopefully handles it.”

While some players don’t like to get into politics in order to avoid rocking the boat — Michael Jordan comes to mind — Curry joins LeBron James as recent MVPs unafraid to speak out about issues when they have opinions. Though some may disagree with his beliefs, it is commendable that he is standing up for what he feels is right.
