Gary Gilmore cries during interview talking about his dad
Coastal Carolina beat Arizona 4-3 in Thursday’s deciding game of the College World Series to take home the school’s first ever national championship. The win was big for so many reasons, one of which was what it meant to Chanticleers head coach Gary Gilmore.
Gilmore’s father Richard died two years ago. Richard Gilmore was on Gary’s mind after Coastal Carolina won it all.

“I know my dad’s up there. I lost him two years ago, and I wanted him so bad to be here with me. I know he’s watching over me right now,” Gilmore said.
As we said after watching them on Tuesday, Coastal Carolina just seemed to be such a tight-knit team, it was like they were truly playing for something much more. Maybe that really did help will them to victory.
