The son of Baseball Hall of Famer Frank Thomas is following in his father’s footsteps.
Thomas’ son, Frank Thomas III, announced Monday that he plans to play college baseball at Auburn. The 16-year-old said on social media that he is “super excited” to announce his commitment.

The younger Thomas is a first baseman and outfielder at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Unsurprisingly, he is considered to have good power potential and is considered a top 100 prep prospect by Baseball America. Unlike his father, he bats and throws left-handed.

Frank Thomas also played at Auburn, though he initially went there on a football scholarship. He eventually dropped football when he became a baseball star and hit 49 home runs. He went on to a Hall of Fame career with 521 career home runs, primarily playing for the Chicago White Sox.
Thomas was last seen doing MLB analyst work for FOX, but was pushed aside in favor of another Hall of Famer in 2023. At the very least, that will leave him time to watch his son play collegiately starting in 2027.
